BOTANY BAY ZONE PSSA

Amended 2015

Selection Policy:

1 Carnivals:

Students must in allcircumstancesbe in attendance at a Zone Carnival in their school team in order to allow them to be considered for selection in the Zone team to compete at the Sydney East Carnival.

Students must attend and compete at the Zone Carnival in order to allow them to be considered for selection in the Zone team to compete at the Sydney East Carnival, unless they are:

a) Competing at a higher level school sport competition.

In all cases, a request for consideration for inclusion (form) in the Zone team must be presented to the Convener. This is to be verified/endorsed by the student’s Principal and school sportsperson listing the student’s School performance and any relevant previous Zone/Sydney East performance in that sport. This will then be considered for selection by a panel i.e. Executive and Convener. Inclusion in the Zone team under these circumstances will not be at the expense of individuals who have competed at, and qualified for the Zone team based on the qualification procedures determined by the Sydney East PSSA, and is also subject to approval from the relevant Sydney East PSSA Convener. Submitting a consideration for inclusion does not guarantee inclusion in the Zone Team. In all cases a request for inclusion form must be presented to Zone Convener two school days prior to Zone Carnival.

 

b) Member schools should contact relevant zone convener and discuss exceptional circumstances for zone inclusion and must provide relevant authentic documentation. Zone Convener must seek ratification through the Zone executive.

c) Zone Convener and the Botany Bay Zone PSSA executive will make the final decision on any inclusion into Zone team.

d) Botany Bay Zone PSSA conveners to organise all aspects of running the zone carnival e.g. venue, uniform, format.

2 Teams

Students must in all circumstances be in attendance and compete at the Zone Trial in order to allow them to be considered for selection in the Zone team to compete at the Sydney East Trial.

The Zone pathway is for students who are able to demonstrate they are gifted and talented athletes. Zone trials are not a come and try day. Each school may send a maximum of 6 students to a Zone trial. In exceptional circumstances dispensation may be given by the Zone Convener in consultation with the Executive to allow additional students to trial. Schools are not obliged to send the maximum number of students to trial. Nil return needed if sending no students to trial is required to the Convener.

If student is not available for the Sydney East trial and/or NSW State Carnival then the student is deemed ineligible to be chosen in the Zone team.

All students trialling for a Botany Bay Zone PSSA Team need to have the school’s permission to attend and compete at Botany Bay Zone trials. The school Principal must sign the student’s ZONE consent/permission form prior to the Zone trial to allow attendance and participation in the Zone trial. The signed permission note should be returned to the Botany Bay Zone Convener prior to the trial. Students who do not have a Zone consent form signed by the school principal and presented prior to the trial will not be allowed to trial.

Students must attend and compete at the Zone Trial in order to allow them to be considered for selection in the Zone team to compete at the Sydney East Trial, unless they are:

a) Competing at an approved school based activity or higher level school sport competition.

b) Suffering injury

Note: Students who are suffering injury must also attend in order for their inclusion in a zone team to be considered. In this case, original Doctor’s certificate must be presented to Zone Convener, clearly stating the injury in the documentation. (Medical condition or illness is not deemed acceptable.)

b) Member schools should contact relevant zone convener and discuss exceptional circumstances for zone inclusion and must provide relevant authentic documentation. Zone Convener must seek ratification through the Zone executive.

c) Zone Convener and the Botany Bay Zone PSSA executive will make the

final decision on any consideration of inclusion into the Zone team.

d) If a train on squad or second trial is called students included due to injury (with Drs clearance) or representing at school based activity/higher level school sport activity must be available and fit to play at any subsequent trial called by Zone Convener(s).

e) Botany Bay Zone PSSA convener(s) to organise all aspects of running the zone trial e.g. venue, uniform, format, train on squad or second trial. The selection panel of personnel choosing Zone team will be determined by the Botany Bay PSSA Convener and/or executive if deemed necessary. The Zone Convener is responsible for naming the Zone Team and subsequently contacting Zone Executive and all member schools of chosen students to compete at Sydney East trials.

BOTANY BAY ZONE CONVENERS Consideration of Entry Procedures:

Zone Convener will inform in writing on behalf of the executive to the pupil and pupil’s school the following information if Consideration of Entry/Inclusion is granted. If a second trial is called pupil must be available to play and be fit (Drs clearance must be presented to participate at the second trial). Those students included because at approved school based activity or higher level school sport representation must also be fit to play at second trial. Convener(s) will chose Zone sports team based on performances and Zone selection criteria from first and second trial (if needed).

A Doctor’s clearance must be obtained, stating that the subsequent injury is now healed, and presented at least 2 school days prior to SE PSSA Sydney East trial for the pupil to join the Botany Bay Zone PSSA team. Convener or the school sports teacher to sight the Doctor’s clearance (make a copy to present or fax to Zone convener). If no Doctor’s clearance is given to Convener, the pupil would be ineligible to join the Botany Bay Zone PSSA Sports Team and take part in Sydney East trial.
